What is the Free LED light replacement initiative by the Government of Victoria?

Are you a resident or a business owner in Victoria? If yes, you can claim your free LED lighting upgrade for your home under the government’s VEU program.

The Victorian Government is providing free LED light replacement opportunities to both Victorian residents & businesses through its accredited providers like us.

The Victorian Energy Upgrades program shortly known as (VEU) is an energy efficiency initiative run by the state government. Rebates and discounts are available for the purchase of energy-efficient products for both private households and commercial enterprises. This results in lower monthly electricity bills and contributes to a reduction in overall greenhouse gasses.

Still, feeling confused about how you can upgrade to LED lights absolutely for free? Well, don’t worry! Being accredited providers (AP) under the VEU scheme, we’ll guide you through the process of how you can get your replacements done by paying ‘0’ dollars in return.

But let us first make you understand “how the VEU program actually works”? because we want our customers & readers to be well-informed about the program & the benefits they will get in return.

How does the Free LED replacement government program work?

The government of Victoria under its VEU program joins hands with the companies that deal in energy-efficient products. When Victorian businesses or households contact the companies like DBS Australia for a free upgrade, the companies generate an E-certificate.

Each certificate indicates the reduction of one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions that would have otherwise been released into the atmosphere. After that, these certificates are sold to energy retailers by accredited providers.

The certificates are then utilized by energy retailers to meet the Victorian Government’s annual emissions targets. The market activity and price of the certificates both have an effect on the incentive or discount that is offered to individual families and commercial enterprises.

Why is the Victorian government providing free led light replacement?

The Victorian Energy Upgrade Program (VEU) previously known as the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET), was introduced back in 2009 by Essential Services Commission (ESC). The main aim of the program was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as to cut electricity bills by introducing energy-efficient products to consumers at discounted prices. So, the program then proved to be a win-win for both the government & the consumers.

Since 2009, the government of Victoria has reduced around a 60Million tonnes of gas emissions so far under this VEU scheme. It is estimated that by 2025, the households and businesses in Victoria will be able to save up to $1100 to $74000 per annum respectively.

LED lights are more energy-efficient compared to their counterparts like incandescent and halogen light bulbs. An ordinary LED bulb generates 95% of energy while consuming just 5% of energy to emit that light, unlike the old incandescent & halogen light bulbs,

Whereas, an incandescent light bulb burns 95% of its energy to emit just 5% of light. The heat produced during this process results in higher electricity costs & greenhouse gas production. As a consequence, more carbon is produced which badly damages our atmosphere.

The same goes for halogen lights. A typical halogen bulb burns 30w of energy to generate 500+ lumens while emitting 60+ degrees of heat.

Thus, around 85% of electricity costs can be reduced just by shifting to energy-efficient products like LED’s.

Eligibility Criteria to get free LED lights for homes in Victoria under the VEU program

●     To be eligible to get a free upgrade or a discount/rebate on energy efficiency products, you must either be a Victorian resident or a business owner operating within the state of Victoria.

●     You should have Incandescent light bulbs or lamps, halogen lamps, and CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps) to replace with energy-efficient LED products.

Your participation is all voluntary in this energy efficiency upgrade process.

Benefits of shifting to LED’s

Cost Effective: The cost to replace the old lights with the new energy-efficient lights like LED is zero, so there is nothing to lose by switching to LED lighting.

Environment Friendly: Due to their low environmental impact, LED lights are rapidly replacing traditional bulbs. Additionally, they do not give off any UV rays or contain any mercury, or any other potentially hazardous gasses.

Longer Life Span: The average lifespan of an LED bulb is around 50,000 hours, while CFLs rarely exceed 12,000 hours.

Brighter: When you shift to LED products, your home or workplace will look brighter & cooler than ever.

Less Heat Emission: LED bulbs also reduce fire danger since they operate at a considerably lower temperature than incandescent and halogen lamps (by about 90%).

You can save up to 80% on electricity bills by shifting to LEDs
